Message from Dean Anita Siccardi, Ed.D.
We welcome you to join us as caregivers who assist patients to meet their health care needs. Our students have a commitment to learn challenging coursework, manage competencies to be a professional and practice attributes of caring required for personal and professional success.
The advances of health care are demanding in all areas of nursing education and practice. Extensive research completed in the last few years directs the preparation of our Marian University students to focus on the future of nursing. Indiana is among twenty one state based Action Coalitions for the Future of Nursing Campaign. The work of the faculty in these coalitions will assist in advancing the recommendations for the future of health care.
As a Marian University nursing student, you will be transformed by the Franciscan Values and the study of liberal arts that are infused into the fabric of our institution. For instance, the value of Dignity of the Individual will guide your interaction with your community and patients. You will have the opportunity to work with qualified faculty in a mentoring environment. Enrichment experiences coordinated by the Center for Health Sciences Nursing Resource Center will incorporate the latest technology for innovative interdisciplinary learning between medical students and the nursing students. Leadership skills are fostered by involvement in the Student Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, as well as university involvement in Athletics, service projects and study abroad.
The faculty is experientially and academically prepared for their role in each specialty of interest. Students who are having difficulty handling all of the demands of higher education are recognized by the faculty and master’s prepared academic advisors who assist in understanding the course content, test review and referrals to the Marian University Learning Center as appropriate. Each student meets with the academic advisor at least twice a year to plan and review their program of study to offer assistance with study habits and monitor the status of student progress.
We offer a variety of programs for the student seeking their first degree, students who have a degree in another field and registered nurses who want to obtain a baccalaureate nursing degree. We encourage you to visit our school to experience the charismatic and interdisciplinary learning environment for students at Marian University.
With Sincere Best Wishes,
Anita Siccardi, Ed.D., APRN, FNGNA
