Angel Velez leads the Marian University Bands in "rewriting the book on music education" in 2009. In his third year as director of bands, Velez continues to develop the Marian University Bands into a thriving and growing program known for its quality and innovation. Velez conducts the Wind Ensemble, directs the Marching Knights, conducts the Percussion Ensemble, teaches percussion, and oversees all aspects of the Marian University Bands.
He is also a noted composer and arranger, having collaborated on several published works, including the sountrack for the 2005 motion picture "Madison" with film composer Kevin Kiner for the Madison Regatta Bicentennial. Velez's new jazz CD, Tumbao, will debut in spring of 2010, and he maintains an active schedule as a composer and clinician in addition to his responsibilities at Marian University.
He and his wife, Leslie, reside in Fishers, Indiana with their dog, Sydney.
