Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to be written) The Improvised Shakespeare Co. creates a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece right before your very eyes! The Improvised Shakespeare Company, founded in 2005, has been performing its critically-acclaimed show to sold out audiences at the world famous iO Theater in Chicago for over seven years. The ISC also continues to entertain audiences across the US with its national touring company. The ISC has been featured at the Piccolo Spoleto Fringe Festival, Off Broadway in New York City, Bonnaroo, the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, UCB’s Del Close Marathon, and the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and Chicago.  It has been named Chicago's best improv group by both the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Examiner, has been honored by the Chicago Improv Foundation, and has received a New York Nightlife Award for "Best Comedic Performance by a Group".

-Time Out Chicago

“Mind-blowing… It was one of the funniest, most amazing things I’ve ever seen.” -The Charleston City Paper

“The Improvised Shakespeare troupe, exactly what it sounds like, is a tremendous hit in its hometown, Chicago, and it made a big impression at the recent Montreal comedy festival with their on-the-spot soliloquies and perfect pentameter… Go laugh your iams off..” – The New York Times

spontaneous group work. In the ISC's Improvisation Workshop, students will be exposed
to the main principles of group improvisation. Students will participate in various
exercises that emphasize the importance of active listening, support, working as a team,
confidence, and creativity. This workshop is perfect for theatre classes, improv groups,
community events, or anyone at all!

"This poem [by John Donne] from which I quote has steadied my heart for many years, especially when I have brushed up against the reality of death or darkness. This little record is named, Death, Be Not Proud, precisely because it is a small collection of songs about resurrection, hope, and life after death...a gift, I hope, to anyone in need of a reminder that, as Donne so beautifully writes, “death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die."

-Audrey Assad

About Audrey

Piano-driven, soulful and inspired by literature as much as music, Audrey Assad is a unique personality in the professional music scene. Audrey’s compositions draw from a spring of varied sources and encompass both the spiritual and secular. Her music is focused on portraying a realistic picture of spiritual life, including all its triumphs, trials and tribulations. As a result, Audrey peppers her lyrics with references to sources both inside and outside the Catholic faith to which she belongs, including folk music, poetry and literature, along with theologians and authors such as CS Lewis and Tolstoy. Learn more about Audrey.
