Marian College Participates in HASTI

Marian College is participating in the 39th annual HASTI (Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc.) conference on February 2-6, 2009.
The 39th annualHASTI (Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc.) conference is February 2-6, 2009, in the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Representatives from Marian College are at the event promoting the college’sgreen chemistry program, the Institute for Green and Sustainable Sciences, the Institute for Advanced Mathematics and Sciences, and theLife Science Education Center at Marian College. Presentations by Marian College faculty include: "Atoms and Cosmos," by Dr. Rod Macrae on Thursday, February 5 at 9:30 a.m."Network-Based Computational Chemistry on a Shoestring," by Dr. Rod Macrae on Thursday, February 5 at 2:30 p.m."New Hands-On Green Chemistry Experiments for the High School Setting," by Dr. Carl Lecher on Friday, February 6 at 8:30 a.m."Teaching the Broad, Interdisciplinary Impact of Evolution," by Dr. Dave Benson on Friday, February 6 at 2:30 p.m. “The future economic and cultural health of this country is increasingly dependent on having both a technologically savvy general public as well as a core group of biomedical scientists working to advance industries from biotechnology to pharmacology to medical science. None of this can happen without a revolution in mathematics and science education,” says Dr. Loren Bertocci, dean of theSchool of Mathematics and Sciences at Marian College. “The mission of Marian College is to provide an education that profoundly transforms lives, society and the world. Within the School of Mathematics and Sciences, we are working to actuate this mission by educating students to prepare them to be outstanding mathematicians and scientists as well as to be outstanding educators,” adds Dr. Bertocci. “Our involvement in HASTI is but one small example of our dedication to transforming mathematics and science education for the long-term benefit of Indiana.
