INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College men's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game, 70-56, as the No. 7-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats' size proved too much for the Knights.
The Knights fell to 10-14 overall and 1-13 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
After IWU opened a 14-4 lead with 16:34 to go in the first half, the Knights fought back with an 8-0 run to knot the score, 14-14, with 12:57 remaining. However, a 15-2 Wildcats run opened an 13-point lead, 29-16, with 7:00 remaining. The Knights were unable to recover as IWU went into the locker room with a 14-point lead, 40-26.
After pushing the lead to 19, 51-32, with 14:47 remaining in the game, the Wildcats cruised to the 70-56 win.
Sophomore Tyler Kleinschmidt (Indianapolis/Bishop Chatard) and freshman Alex Sylvester (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) each had 12 points for the Knights. Kleinschmidt and freshman Jameson Wheeler (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) each had a team-high four rebounds and three assists.
The Knights get back on the court at the Physical Education Center on Tuesday night when the Goshen College Maple Leafs come to town. It is SENIOR NIGHT and the two Marian College seniors will be honored.
The game is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the action airing LIVE on XL 950. Brad Wochomurka (p-b-p) and Director of Athletics Joe Haklin (color) will call all the action beginning at 6:50 p.m.
