INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College men's basketball team won the 10th Annual Ken Elmendorf Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon in upset fashion. The Knights knocked off NAIA Division II No. 12-ranked Indiana Tech, 82-59, to earn their ninth title in the 10 years.

The Knights opened a 10-3 lead with 16:19 remaining in the first half, but the Warriors took a one-point lead, 21-20, with 5:53 to go. The Knights decided it was time to take control, and they did just that.

The Knights outscored the Warriors, 23-3, over the final five minutes to take a 43-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The full court press of Indiana Tech was not effective in the first half. The athletic Warriors were unable to get back in the game as the Knights' lead ballooned to as high as 26, 82-56, in the second half before the horn sounded with the final score being 82-59.

Although the Knights were outrebounded, 41-36, they forced the Warriors into committing 22 turnovers while only committing eight themselves. The Knights shot 46 percent for the game (29-for-63) including 7-for-23 from three-point range.

Sophomore Anthony Furlin (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern) earned All-Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after scoring a game-high 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting. He knocked down three straight three-pointers in the first half to put the Knights ahead to stay.

Junior Heath Chamberlain (Brazil, Indiana/Northview) also earned All-Tournament team honors after he scored 13 points and gabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Jameson Wheeler (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) tallied eight points, handed out four assists, and had two steals in earning his first All-Tournament team accolade.

Sophomore Jordan Tucker (Kirklin, Indiana/Clinton Central) tallied 10 points, handed out a team-high five assists, and grabbed four boards for the Knights.

The Knights improved to 4-1 on the season while Indiana Tech dropped to 6-1.

In the consolation game, Holy Cross College picked up its first win of the season, 67-62, over Illinois Tech earlier in the day. Elliott Jones, Jr., from Holy Cross and Rob Knapczyk from Illinois Tech were named to the All-Tournament team while Tim Browning from Indiana Tech also was tabbed for the All-Tournament team.

The Knights hit the road as they open the 2008-09 Mid-Central College Conference season when they head to Spring Arbor, Michigan, to take on Spring Arbor University. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
