Knights defeat Wabash; win Thorn title - 12/13/2008

 
 
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana - The Marian College men's basketball team won its second piece of hardware in 2008-09.
 
The Knights defeated host Wabash College, 74-62, at Chadwick Court to bring the Pete Thorn Tournament championship back to the Physical Education Center.
 
The win move the Knights' record to 6-4 on the season.
 
After a 9-0 run opened the game the Knights opened a 19-7 lead with 10:10 to go in the first half. However, the Little Giants pushed their way back to within seven, 35-28, at halftime.
 
The Knights would not relinquish their lead as the Little Giants could only cut the lead to as low as six, 59-53, with 4:56 to go. The Knights pushed the lead to 12, 69-57, and cruised the rest of the way for the win.
 
The Knights were red-hot from the field as they shot 55 percent for the game (27-for-49) and were 7-for-12 (58 percent) from three-point range.
 
Freshman Alex Sylvester (Indianapolis/Perry Meridian) and sophomore Anthony Furlin (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern) led the Knights with 18 points each. Sylvester was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for his weekend performance.
 
Freshman Jameson Wheeler (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) had a game-high four assists and a team-high seven rebounds for the Knights. He also added eight points.
 
Sophomore Jordan Tucker (Kirklin, Indiana/Clinton Central) was also named to the All-Tournament team after he scored eight points and dished out a career-high six assists.
 
The Knights head back to the Physical Education Center to take on Kuyper College on Monday evening. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast LIVE at www.marian.edu/athletics by clicking the Broadcast link.
