Knights fall at Taylor, 63-54 - 2/4/2009

 
UPLAND, Indiana - The Marian College men's basketball team traveled to Taylor University on Wednesday night and fell to the Trojans, 63-54, at Odle Arena.
 
The loss dropped the Knights to 10-12 overall and 1-11 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
 
After the Knights scored the game-opening bucket, Taylor outscored the Knights 14-0 to take a 12-point lead with 12:57 to go in the half. However, a 9-0 Knights run cut the lead to three, 14-11, with 11:10 to go.
 
The Trojans went on a 9-2 run of their own to push the lead back to 10, 23-13, with 6:51 to go in the half. The Knights outscored the Trojans, 13-7, over the final 6:51 to take a 30-26 lead into the locker room.
 
A three-point bucket cut the lead to one, 30-29, to open the second half. The Trojans pushed the lead six on three occasions over the first 7:37 of the half before the Knights cut the lead to two, 45-43, with 11:07 to go.
 
Eventually, the Knights cut the lead to one, 49-48, with 8:18 remaining, but a 9-0 Trojans run pushed the lead back to 10, 58-48, with 2:25 remaining in the game. The Knights were only able to get within six over the final two minutes as Taylor was able to hold on for the 63-54 win.
 
Sophomore Anthony Furlin (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern) led the Knights with 19 points while sophomore Jordan Tucker (Kirklin, Indiana/Clinton Central) added 11 points for the Knights.
 
The Knights were outrebounded 25-17 and Taylor was on fire from the field as they hit for 58 percent (21-for-36) from the field for the game.
 
The Knights are off on Saturday before they head to the No. 1 team in the nation, Bethel College, next Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
