Knights come back for 3-3 draw - 10/15/2008

FORT WAYNE, Indiana - For the third match this season, the Marian College men's soccer team was faced with playing in a monsoon when they hit the pitch at the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday night. The Knights were able to steal a 3-3 draw after falling behind 3-0

The Cougars posted a 3-0 lead in the first frame, but the Knights responded with a goal from junior Gabriel Peters (Marion, Indiana/Marion) to cut the gap to 3-1 at halftime. Then came the heaviest rain of the day.

A monsoon gripped the pitch as the second half got underway and the Knights have played well in heavy rains this season.

Senior Benton Schafer (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) scored a goal to cut the lead to 3-2 and sophomore Troy Lock (Madison, Indiana/Madison) knotted the score line, 3-3, late in regulation.

Neither team generated too many chances in the two overtime sessions as the rain continued to pour down. The match concluded with a 3-3 draw after 110 minutes and snapped the Knights' eight-game losing skid.

The marker was Lock's second of the season and the goals by Peters and Schafer were their first of the campaign.

The Knights improved to 3-11-1 on the season and 0-5-1 in MCC play.

The team heads to Mishawaka, Indiana, on Saturday, October 25 to battle the Bethel College Pilots. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
