Three Knights named Scholar-Athletes - 12/8/2008

INDIANAPOLIS - Three Marian College men's soccer players were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes at the NAIA National Tournament last weekend.

Senior Benton Schafer (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield), junior Gabriel Peters (Marion, Indiana/Marion), and junior Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Indiana/Forest Park) were all named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Schafer picks up his first honor after a stellar season guiding the Knights from the defensive midfield position. While his scoring statistics are not that of a forward, his nose for the ball earned him a reputation as a stick-it-to-you defender.

Peters and Foerster also earned their first academic honors. Peters was the driving force in the center of the midfield over the past two seasons and Foerster was the strong contributor on the wing. Both provide excitement from the midfield.

The award is given to a student-athlete with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5 or above and has achieved junior standing at their institution.
