Injuries hamper Knights in 2-1 loss - 9/17/2008

URBANA, Ohio - The Marian College men's soccer team looked to echo the success of the women's team on Wednesday when it traveled to Urbana University. However, the Knights fell to the Blue Knights, 2-1, after injuries hampered the second half.

The Knights looked to have control over the run of play in the first half as they outshot the Blue Knights, 8-5, but the second half played out much differently than expected.

Just four minutes into the second stanza, at the 49:12 mark, Urbana struck to take a 1-0 lead. As the Knights scrambled for an equalizer, Urbana hit one more time in the 76th minute to take a 2-0 lead.

The Knights were facing a hole with numerous starters out to injury and were able to cut the lead to 2-1 with 14 minutes remaining.

Freshman Tyler Kitchen (Indianapolis/Roncalli) got on the end of a loose ball at the 86:08 mark. Junior Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Indiana/Forest Park) served in a beautiful cross that found the head of freshman Adam Sheckler (Mooresville, Indiana/Mooresville). Sheckler flicked the header toward goal and Kitchen cleaned up in front to cut the gap to one.

However, time was not the Knights' side as Urbana was able to run out the clock and hang on for the 2-1 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper James Dulhanty (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon) made six saves in a losing effort as the Knights fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Knights open Mid-Central College Conference play on Tuesday, September 23, when they play host to Indiana Wesleyan University at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Facility. The match is slated for 7:30 p.m.
