Knights drop third straight - 9/27/2008

INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College men's soccer team looked to snap its two-match losing skid on Saturday, but was unable to as Spring Arbor scored early and held on for a 1-0 win. The Knights fall to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in MCC play.

The Cougars scored just 4:43 into the match and the Knights struggled to create chances early in the match.

A shot by senior Benton Schafer (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) led to a save at the 19:05 mark and junior Gabriel Peters (Marion, Indiana/Marion) also had a chance at the 23:28 mark but was denied by the goalkeeper.

The Knights outshot the Cougars, 7-3, in the first half, but chances were few and far between in the second frame. The Knights managed just two shots while SAU had nine opportunities.

Senior Brad Sontag (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) made five saves in his first career start.

The Knights remain at home when the Taylor University Trojans come to the multi-purpose athletic facility on Wednesday night. The match is slated for 7:30 p.m.
