Knights fall to No. 17 McKendree, 1-0 - 9/5/2008

LEBANON, Illinois - The Marian College men's soccer team traveled to No. 17-ranked McKendree University on Saturday evening for the opening match of the McKendree Classic.

The Knights, who are having trouble on offense lately, came up on the short end of a 1-0 score line. McKendree posted a late goal in the 83rd minute to sink the Knights and send them to a 1-2 overall record.

Freshman goalkeeper James Dulhanty (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon) gave about as much as he could as he faced a barrage of 26 shots and only allowed one to cross the line. He made a career-high 10 saves, but was on the losing end of the decision.

Seniors David Case (Avon, Indiana/Avon) and Benton Schafer (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) each registered a shot on goal while junior Michael Foerster (Ferdinand, Indiana/Forest Park) registered a single shot, but not on frame.

The Knights close the McKendree Classic on Sunday afternoon when they take on Lindenwood, which is another team receiving votes in the NAIA poll. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
