Knights fall to Lindenwood, 3-1 - 9/7/2008

 
LEBANON, Illinois - The Marian College men's soccer team closed out the McKendree University Tournament against Lindenwood University on Sunday. Two late goals sealed a 3-1 defeat for the Knights as they dropped their third straight to fall to 1-3.
 
The first half was back-and-forth as the Knights outshot Lindenwood, 6-5, and took a 1-0 lead early in the half.
 
Senior T.J. Rauch (Guilford, Indiana/East Central) scored his second goal of the season at the 16:44 mark. Senior Benton Schafer (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) tallied his first assist of the season on the goal.
 
The Knights held the lead for five minutes as Lindenwood posted the equalizer at the 21:58 mark to send the match to the interval tied, 1-1.
 
The second half saw the Knights spending a lot of time in their defensive half as Lindenwood fired a barrage of shots at freshman goalkeeper James Dulhanty (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon). LU outshot the Knights 17-2 in the second half.
 
The back line held strong for 38 minutes, but conceded the game-winner at the 83:22 mark and gave Lindenwood a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later (85:38) Lindenwood posted an insurance goal to earn a 3-1 victory and send the Knights to 1-3 on the season.
 
Dulhanty was forced into making eight saves as his record fell to 1-3 on the season.
 
The Knights stay on the road as they head to Schererville, Indiana to battle Calumet College of St. Joseph on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
