Knights defeat Calumet-St. Joseph, 3-2 - 9/10/2008

SCHERERVILLE, Indiana - The Marian College men's soccer team squandered an early 1-0 lead, but was able to post a late marker to pick up a 3-2 win on the road against Calumet-St. Joseph on Wednesday night.

Senior T.J. Rauch (Guilford, Indiana/East Central) scored an early marker in the first five minutes to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. However, the Knights defense fell asleep in the first half and allowed the Crimson Wave to equalize heading into the break, 1-1.

Sophomore Chase Brackin (Indianapolis/Warren Central) was involved in a scrum for a loose ball in the second frame and punched the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. However, Brackin was lost on the play to injury and nerves were rattled as he was driven off in an ambulance.

Freshman Tyler Kitchen (Indianapolis/Roncalli) posted the game-winning tally with 10 minutes remaining. Kitchen cut right on the left side of the box and juked his marker with move back to the left and fired a quick shot with his left foot inside the near post for the game-winning goal. The Knights held on for the 3-2 victory to snap a three-match losing streak.

Freshman goalkeeper James Dulhanty (Lebanon, Indiana/Lebanon) earned his second career victory in the win.

The Knights come home for their regular season home opener against Robert Morris College on Sunday, September 14, at the Marian College Multi-Purpose Athletic Facility. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast via Robert Morris College radio.
