INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to 13 straight games on Monday afternoon with a 70-59 victory over a strong University of Saint Francis Cougars team at the Physical Education Center.
 
The Knights are now 13-0 on the season and 3-0 in the ultra-competitive Mid-Central College Conference.
 
In a first half that featured seven ties and eight lead changes, the Knights went into the locker room with the slimmest of leads, one point, 36-35. The highest lead for either team in the first half was five points by the Knights, 36-31, with 59 seconds remaining.
 
After the Cougars tied the game, it looked as if the Knights were going to struggle in the second half. However, after USF took a two-point lead, 40-38, with 15:31 remaining, the Knights pushed their lead to 10 points, 53-43, after a 15-3 run with 11:20 to go.
 
The Cougars trimmed the lead to two, 53-51, with 7:38 remaining as the Knights were held without a field goal for 3:42. The Cougars kept the game within striking distance until an 8-0 Knights' run pushed the lead back to 10, 65-55, with 3:13 remaining.
 
The Cougars were only able to cut the lead to seven the rest of the way as the Knights closed the game with the final four points on free throws to earn the 70-59 victory.
 
The Knights shot 44 percent (25-for-57) for the game and held the Cougars to 39 percent (22-for-56) for the game. USF shot just 32 percent (9-for-28) in the second half.
 
Senior Jessica Carr (New Castle, Indiana/New Castle) and junior Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Indiana/Brownsburg) led five Knights in double figures with 13 points each. Carr also added seven rebounds and two blocks for the Knights.
 
Senior Whitney Frame (Lynn, Indiana/Randolph Southern) added 12 points and four rebounds while junior Megan Egenolf (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
 
Junior Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Indiana/Center Grove) had 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds while freshman Emily Smithson (Selma, Indiana/Wapahani) added five points and four assists.
 
The Knights head to the Taylor University Holiday Classic on Tuesday, December 30 when they take on Ohio Dominican University at 6 p.m. The Knights will also battle St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Wednesday, December 31 at 12 noon.
