Senior Whitney Frame scored the game-winning bucket over Goshen on Saturday. |
INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian College women's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a 44-42 victory over Goshen College on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Center.
Fifth-year senior Whitney Frame (Lynn, Indiana/Randolph Southern) found herself open at the top of the key with 28 seconds remaining in the game. She took the shot and rattled it home to give the Knights the 44-42 victory.
After falling behind 14-2 with 13:20 remaining in the first half, the Knights went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to cut the gap to two, 16-14. However, Goshen pushed the lead to 10, 27-17, with 3:05 remaining in the half. The Knights were able to cut the lead to four, 29-25, at the interval.
Out of the locker room, the Knights went on a 6-0 run to open the second half to take a 31-29 lead with 17:07 remaining in the game. After a pair of ties, the Knights were able to push their lead to six, 42-36, with 9:47 to go.
The Maple Leafs were able to tie the game, 42-42, with 5:37 remaining and neither team was able to sink a bucket for the next 5:09 before Frame knocked down what proved to be the game-winner.
After Frame gave the Knights the lead, Goshen had one more opportunity. A jumper in the paint with four seconds remaining went begging and junior Kristin Houck (Brownsburg, Indiana/Brownsburg) hauled in the rebound as the horn sounded giving the Knights their first win in five games.
The Knights were held without a double-digit scorer as senior Jessica Carr (New Castle, Indiana/New Castle) had a team-high eight points. She also had a game-high 10 rebounds and a game-high three blocks.
Frame finished with six points, a game-high five assists, and a game-high four steals. Junior Molly Lauck (Greenwood, Indiana/Center Grove) finished with six points, four rebounds, and three steals.
The Knights shot just 32 percent (19-for-60) for the game while Goshen shot just 29 percent (16-for-55). The Maple Leafs outrebounded the Knights, 49-39, but the Knights scored 17 points off 24 Goshen turnovers.
The Knights hit the road on Wednesday when they travel to Huntington, Indiana, to battle the No. 18-ranked Foresters at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast LIVE at
