GOSHEN, Indiana - The Marian College women's basketball team closed the road portion of its regular season on Wednesday with a dominant 74-53 victory at the Gingerich Center.
 
The Knights snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 19-10 on the season and 7-8 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
 
After failing to hit their first five shots and committing three turnovers in the first 4:20 of the game, the Knights found themselves down 9-0 to start the game. After a 5-1 run cut the lead to five, 10-5, the Maple Leafs extended the lead back to seven, 12-5, with 12:58 remaining. That was when head coach Todd Bacon's team awakened.
 
A 10-3 run tied the game, 15-15, with 9:51 remaining and a three-pointer gave the Knights an 18-15 lead with 9:24 to go in the half. Goshen answered to knot the score, but the Knights went on an 8-0 run to open an eight-point lead, 26-18, with 4:15 remaining in the first stanza.
 
The lead was seven, 30-23, with 2:04 to go when the Knights broke out a 6-0 run to open a 13-point lead, 36-23. Goshen scored one free throw before the buzzer and sent the Knights into the locker room with a 36-24 lead.
 
The Knights opened the second half with a 6-0 run to open an 18-point lead, 44-26, with 17:03 remaining in the game. The team never looked back as Goshen could only get to within 15 as the Knights cruised to the 74-53 victory.
 
The Knights shot 49 percent (30-for-61) from the field including 40 percent (4-for-10) from three-point range while the defense held Goshen to just 29 percent (16-for-56) from the field.
 
While Goshen outrebounded the Knights, 42-41, the Knights capitalized on 22 Maple Leafs' turnovers to the tune of 19 points. While Goshen had an 18-8 edge in second-chance points, the Knights dominated in the paint, 28-18.
 
Junior Megan Egenolf (Plainfield, Indiana/Plainfield) led the Knights after she tallied her first career double-double. She scored 13 points and hauled down a team-high 10 boards. She also handed out four assists for the Knights.
 
Fifth-year senior Whitney Frame (Lynn, Indiana/Randolph Southern) had a game-high 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists. Senior Jessica Carr (New Castle, Indiana/New Castle) added 10 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Anjellica Rospond (Crown Point, Indiana/Crown Point) tallied 10 points and grabbed four boards.
 
Junior Theresa Fairbrother (Danville, Indiana/Danville) added nine points, five boards, and a game-high five assists.
 
The Knights come back to the Physical Education Center on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day against No. 16-ranked Huntington University. The three seniors will be honored on Saturday.
