Four Year Career Development Plan

Freshman Year (Self-Discovery)

  • Identify interests, abilities, and values. Complete Sigi3 assessment.

  • Research majors that match interests, skills, and values. Seek the counsel of academic advisor and ICS.

  • Attend Student Activities Fair to learn about organizations on campus. Get Involved.

  • Attend a service or career event on campus or in the community.

Sophomore Year (Career Exploration and Planning)

  • Stay involved. Consider joining additional student organizations.

  • Draft a resume and cover letter for ICS review. Upload to KnightWork.

  • Create a LinkedIn profile.

  • Complete a mock interview. Write a thank you note to the interviewer.

  • Obtain a summer experience to help with career exploration and to build job skills.

  • Attend ICS Etiquette Dinner.

Junior Year (Decision Making/Reflection)

  • Stay involved. Consider leading a student organization.

  • Update your resume and LinkedIn profile. Upload resume to KnightWork.

  • Complete an internship or another significant experiential learning opportunity (Directed Research, A-Team, Ethics Bowl, Speech Team, NSAC, etc.).

  • Research and visit companies to learn more about their work and opportunities.

  • Consult advisor, faculty, and ICS staff for assistance in conducting your job/educational search.

  • Attend ICS Networking Knights.

  • Prepare/practice for GRE or professional school admission test, if applicable.

Senior Year (Reflection and Job Search/Advanced Education Plan)

  • Update your resume and LinkedIn profile to highlight academic, professional, leadership, and co-curricular successes. Upload resume to KnightWork.

  • Network, research companies, and utilize KnightWork to conduct your job search.

  • Request permission from professionals and professors to include on a list of references.

  • Schedule a mock interview with ICS.

  • Attend ICS Life After Marian.

  • Complete GRE/professional admission test.

  • Seek guidance regarding CV, purpose statement, etc. from ICS and/or your academic department if pursuing post-graduate study.
