Academic Honors at Graduation

Students in a bachelor's degree program who have earned at least 60 credit hours of graded coursework at Marian University and who have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher are awarded academic honors as follows.

Traditional bachelor's degree (baccalaureate) program

3.50–3.69 

Cum laude 

3.70–3.79

Magna cum laude 

3.80 and above   

Summa cum laude 

Marian’s Adult Programs: baccalaureate program

3.50–3.69

Honors 

3.70–3.79

High honors 

3.80 and above

Highest honors 

Students earning graduation honors will be recognized in the commencement program, on their official university transcripts, and their diplomas. Graduation honors will also be recognized at the ceremony. 

Students receiving academic honors will receive a gold honors tassel to wear at the Commencement Ceremony. Tassels will be on assigned seats in the staging area before the ceremony begins.
