2011 Business Plan Competition Finalists Announced
In Business 101, freshmen business students have been developing business plans for businesses they could potentially operate on the Marian University campus. During the semester, 85 students in 16 different teams worked on this project. Last week, each of those teams made a presentation to members of the Byrum School of Business Board of Visitors. As a result of that process, the four best business plans were selected. The finalists will present their proposed businesses to an “all-star” panel of business executives on Friday, December 9th from 8:30-11 a.m. in the ensemble room of the Steffan Music Center. The judges will select the winning plan as well as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place runners-up. The winning team will then have the opportunity to receive a start-up loan, generously funded by the Byrum BOV, and operate their business on campus during the spring semester. The business concepts for the four finalists are: Build-A-Basket On campus provider of customizable care packages for students, offering easy online ordering and payment with no shipping costs.  Indy Knight Rider Gourmet sandwich shop based at the Major Taylor Velodrome, offering delivery services by the Marian cycling team. Kampus Kuts On campus men’s barbershop, offering convenient, professional haircuts at a reasonable price. Marian’s List Online campus version of Craig’s List that provides a fast and convenient way for the Marian community to buy and sell goods/services. Congratulations to all the finalists!
