On Tuesday, December 9, 2008, the college will hold a dedication and open house for the Nina Mason Pulliam Nature Center. The event will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. in Allison Mansion, and refreshments will be served. The new nature center occupies the former indoor swimming pool area in the basement of Allison Mansion, located at the outskirts of the Marian College EcoLab. The center will allow the Life Science Education Center (LSEC) at Marian College to host more EcoLab visitors and offer an enhanced experience for K-12 students. It will serve as a gathering place for students before or after an EcoLab program, as a place for lunch and breaks, and as a staging area for students when a large group is broken into smaller cohorts. On inclement days, students can participate in interactive video conference programs from the LSEC, or interact with mobile exhibits and conduct hands-on experiments. The major renovations are completed; additional work will be done on the steps, brickwork, and other areas throughout the school year. The new nature center is funded by a generous gift from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust. In March, it awarded the college $550,000 for the nature center and a shelter in the EcoLab.
