Indianapolis- Marian University (www.marian.edu) is excited to host the ninth annual Lead from the Heart lecture in ethics on March 21, 2017, in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences on the university’s campus. This year’s lecturer is Steven S. Ivy, M.Div., Ph.D., former Senior Vice President of Values, Ethics, Social Responsibility, and Pastoral Services at Indiana University Health.
Ivy’s lecture, “Developing Professional Integrity: Where the Three Primary Ways Intersect,” will focus on what is widely recognized as the essential foundation for effective leadership: integrity. While Ivy has played an integral role in the field of health care in Indiana, his lecture will be applicable to leaders of businesses, professional practices, and various other organizations. Within almost any field, Ivy believes three interrelated practices or “primary ways” are required: the practice of truth, goodness, and beauty. Together these practices harness integrated knowledge, desire, and emotion within a community. Such integrity results in means and ends that create whole people and communities.
All of Ivy’s work—including one book, more than twenty articles, and teaching medical ethics elective courses—is centered around medical ethics and the role of religion in medicine and human development. Dr. Ivy has impacted the local community through his participation with non-for-profits and church organizations.
In addition to the Lead From The Heart lecture, Marian University’s Center for Organizational Ethics is also responsible for hosting an annual Ethics Bowl. Marian University has hosted the Central States Regional Ethics Bowl since 1999, and this past fall hosted the 18th annual event on campus.
