by Julia Kelb | Sep 22, 2017

Andrea FleakSigned. Sealed. Delivered. Andrea Fleak ’13, mailroom manager, makes sure all of the university’s incoming and outgoing mail gets to where it needs to go. Leading nine student workers, Fleak can be found in the mailroom in Marian Hall managing office duties or out delivering packages around campus.

Fleak is a graduate of Marian University and was a student worker in the mailroom before beginning her full-time position after graduation. Fleak completed a master’s degree in pastoral theology this past May.

Q&A with Andrea Fleak

Q: What brought you to Marian as a student?

A: My sister went here. There is a large age gap between us, so she was actually starting college when I was in kindergarten. I kind of grew up moving my sister in. I was always set that I wanted to go to Marian. I liked that it was small and Catholic.

Q: What are some of your responsibilities?

A: Anything that has the address 3200 Cold Spring Road on it comes to me. That’s the easiest way to put it. I get all of the mail and packages for everything on campus unless it’s the Marian University Bookstore. We send out everything for the whole university, and we deliver a good portion of it, especially to faculty and staff.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at Marian?

A: I love working with the students. I love getting to know them and hearing their stories, their joys. I had a student tell me today, “I got a 100 percent on my test!” She was really worried about it. So just having those types of moments.

Q: Outside of work, what do you like to do?

A: I’m kind of discovering that. I finished my master’s in May, so this is my first fall with no school. I spend a lot of time with my family. I like making jewelry and rosaries, as well as writing.

Q: What’s one experience working here that sticks out to you?

A: One really cool moment I’ve had was graduation last year. One of the students that graduated was one of my first student workers, and she worked a lot of summers with me, so I knew her pretty well. Seeing her at the Baccalaureate Mass was really cool because I saw her all the way through. Even now we still keep contact. It’s kind of one of those things where you know you’ve made an impact, but you don’t see it all the time.
