Meet the Staff: Mona Kheiry

by Katie Bradley | May 04, 2018

Mona KheiryMona Kheiry, M.S.Ed, instructional designer in the Center for Teaching and Learning, helps faculty teach more effectively and develop and design curriculum that is learner-centered. In April, she celebrated her one-year anniversary at Marian University. When she arrived last year, she immediately felt it was a great fit.

“There’s just a culture of kindness and compassion,” Kheiry said. “The fact that this is a small community also allows me to really make an impact on the faculty and staff.”

As an instructional designer, Kheiry sees more and more faculty developing online or hybrid courses and wanting to make their face-to-face classes more learner-centered. To support this growing trend, the Center for Teaching and Learning has developed a summer master class series that provides faculty with instruction in designing, developing, and teaching online and face-to-face courses effectively using Canvas. The series kicks off with a boot camp on Monday, May 14. You can sign up for the series online. They’re also hosting the 2018 Research Symposium and Celebration on Wednesday, May 9.

Q & A with Mona Kheiry

What is your favorite space on campus?

I love the Allen Whitehill Clowes Oriental Gardens. It’s so peaceful.

What are you reading?

The Spark of Learning: Energizing the College Classroom with the Science of Emotion by Sarah Rose Cavanagh. It’s about how emotions impact learning and the importance of recognizing emotions in the learning process.

If you could switch places with one person on campus (for a day) who would it be and why?

I would switch with Lesley Neff (director of educational services) because she works with so many different people and instructors. She wears a lot of hats; so, it would be an interesting day.
