dcsimg Accreditation

At its April 21-22, 2012 meeting, the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) reviewed and approved the report of the focused site visit conducted on March 12-13, 2012, at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

At this meeting, COCA also reviewed the initial awarding of Provisional Accreditation to MU-COM. The action of COCA was the following:

  • From April 22, 2012 through June 30, 2012, the accreditation status of MU-COM shall be “Pre-accreditation with permission to recruit, but not to admit students or offer instruction.”
  • From July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2017, the accreditation status of MU-COM shall be Provisional Accreditation, subject to reduction in status or advancement to Accreditation in 2017 as COCA may determine. Beginning on July 1, 2012, MU-COM may admit students and proceed to offer instruction beginning in the 2013-14 academic year with an approved class size of 150.

If all COCA standards are met appropriately, MU-COM will receive full accreditation in May of 2017.
