dcsimg Financial Aid Application Process

Financial Aid Application Process

How to Apply

Completing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the first step in determining eligibility for federal student aid. You can complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov utilizing the Marian University school code 001821. The FAFSA becomes available in early January each year, and should be completed as soon as possible to ensure timely processing of your financial aid.

The Office of Financial Aid will receive the results from your FAFSA once the application has been processed.

Award Determination

New students accepted in MU-COM who have completed their FAFSA and paid their seat deposit will receive a financial aid award letter. Once an award determination has been made, you will receive an e-mail from the Office of Financial Aid with instructions on how to access your financial aid award letter through the CAMS student portal. The financial aid award letter will indicate the amount of your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford loan. All Stafford loans will be awarded at full loan eligibility. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the Office of Financial Aid of any outside resource (i.e. parental support, outside scholarship).

Once you access your financial aid award letter in the CAMS student portal, the next step is to accept, reduce, or decline your awards.

To apply for additional financial aid assistance to supplement your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford loan, you may apply for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan. You can complete the Graduate PLUS application online at www.studentloans.gov. The Office of Financial Aid will receive notification of all completed Graduate PLUS applications.

Loan Processing

First time Federal Direct Loan borrowers are required to complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN). You can complete the MPN online at www.studentloans.gov. Students borrowing Graduate PLUS Loan funds will require a separate MPN specifically for Graduate PLUS.

First time borrowers with MU-COM are required to complete an Entrance Counseling. The Entrance Counseling may be completed online at www.studentloans.gov. Please complete the entrance counseling for “graduate students.”

You must accept the loans made available through the financial aid award letter and have on file a completed MPN and Entrance Counseling before federal loans can be processed for disbursement.
