Emma Laut '15

Bachelor of Science Degree, Major in Biology,
Minor in Pastoral Leadership
School of Mathematics and Sciences
School of Liberal Arts

“The community was full of individuals, yet driven by a common love of fellowship; it was a group of people I knew I could grow and thrive in. Then, as I learned about the growing science program and personal attention given to the students, I knew I had found the school ideal for my future. I wasn’t looking for simply an education; I was looking for a place to call home and an opportunity to succeed.”

Laut received the San Damiano Endowed Scholarship, Saint Clare Academic Scholarship, and the Sister Mary Rose Stockton Excellence in Chemistry Award. She is involved in the Students Taking Active Reflective Roles (STARR) CORE group, AB leadership group, co-leader for the alternative spring break trip going to New Mexico in 2013, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, pre-med club, and Pax Christi activities. “I love this campus; I love the close-knit community and how there is something I learn every day. I love finding unique comforting places on campus and feeling welcomed to make friends everywhere. I enjoy going to the cafeteria because I know that there is always a joyful crowd and someone to sit with. I think it’s spectacular that after only one year, I can walk through campus and recognize a majority of the people I see. I love attending Marian University because I feel it was a college made just for me; peers, teachers, and staff members are willing to respect me as a person and seek fellowship together.”

When Emma Laut visited campus for an open house for the San Damiano Scholars Program, she immediately fell in love with the program and the community of students involved.

From the beginning, Marian University has helped Laut with her future. Laut says professors strive to challenge students to be open-minded and resourceful. Additionally, the campus size has allowed her to network and make professional relationships that will be necessary for her future. Laut is a pre-med student and plans to attend medical school following graduation. As of now, she is simply exploring different types of medicine and careers.
