Advancing the Near Northwest Area Through Educational Attainment and Investment

Marian University has been an anchor institution in the Near Northwest Area (NNW) community since it was relocated here by the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg in 1937. Marian, in partnership with NNW, is spearheading the Riverside Education Innovation District (REID), to:

• Improve third-grade literacy rates
• Revitalize the former Larue Carter property on Cold Spring Road
• Create a hub for leading educational partners to support lifelong learning

REID is a commitment to lifelong learning and community revitalization. From literacy initiatives to adult education, we are on a mission to foster a culture of lifelong learning and personal growth for all ages.

Boundaries roughly run north to south from 38^th Street to 16^th Street, and east to west from Kessler Boulevard Drive to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

REID Initiative Four Focus Areas

K–12 literacy support to increase the number of high-quality early childhood learning seats for families.

Support NNW schools to achieve 95% IREAD 3 pass-rate. Increase out of school support and programming.

Increase access to adult education and HSE programming and career and technical education opportunities for high school students and adults.

Prioritize community engagement. Renovate vacant historic property into hub for lifelong learning with community amenities.
