Students Bring Dippin' Dots Franchise to Marian

Students, faculty, and staff at Marian University can now purchase Dippin’ Dots ice cream on campus, thanks to students from the Byrum School’s freshman business experience class.

  • Cameron Acheson, Chas Buening, Mary Mullaney and Wesley Cook are one of several student teams who pitched their business idea to a group of Indianapolis-area investors through BUS 109, a required business plan competition required for all Marian business majors.
  • Their winning plan impressed investors, who provided $525 in start-up funds so they could make their plan a reality.
  • “The course not only prepared us to write a business plan, but it gave us the tools and knowledge to actually run the business,” said Cameron Acheson, who handles accounting for the team.

So far, sales of the sweet treats are exceeding expectations. “We ran out of nearly every flavor on our first day and had to immediately order another shipment,” said Chas Buening, who oversees sales.
