Education Loans

For parent borrowers

  • The Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a low-interest education loan for parents of dependent undergraduate students.
  • With a PLUS Loan, you can fund the entire cost of your child's education (less student financial aid).
  • You can apply for the loan online

For student borrowers

  • All colleges and universities are required to participate in the Federal Direct Student Loan Program for federally-guaranteed student loans.
  • Students who wish to borrow federal student loans should go online to https://studentaid.gov/ to sign a new Master Promissory Note and complete entrance counseling.
  • Funds cannot be disbursed to you until you've signed the promissory note and the entrance counseling process is complete.

Alternative loans

  • Private Education Loans, also known as Alternative Education Loans, help bridge the gap between the actual cost of your education and the limited amount the government allows you to borrow in its loan programs.
  • Private loans are offered by private lenders and are not part of any federal financial aid program.
  • We encourage students and  parents to maximize their federal loan eligibility before considering additional funding through private/alternative programs.
  • We also encourage you to compare and research private student loan programs.
  • Marian University does not recommend or endorse any private student loan programs. You must apply through the lender of your choice to obtain private student loans.
