PROCEDURE

In the event of a power loss the following steps should be followed: 

  • Facility Grounds Services and SASS will work together to determine the cause of any type of power outage. 
  • FGS [and or SASS] will immediately contact NIPSCO to report the power outage. 
  • SASS will notify Director of Ministry Center Services of any outage and the time frame NIPSCO is stating as the estimate before full service is back up and in place. 
  • Director, MCS will communicate as needed any information related to the outage to all other ministries complex wide. 
  • While the emergency power sources throughout the complex are operational, the safest course of action dictates very limited use of ALL ELEVATORS. 
  • Refrain from calling the main switchboard with questions related to the outage unless they are of an emergent nature. 
  • Remain calm and be patient until power is reinstated.
  DO

DO limit use of elevators. DO remain calm. Remain in building until evacuation orders are given. Locate exit stairs or doors and be prepared to evacuate the building if given instructions to do so.

  DON'T
DO NOT call switchboard or SASS with questions related to the outage unless they are of an emergent nature. DO NOT use candles or open flame.

Plumbing, Floor, or Water Leak

DO NOT walk through standing water due to the potential for electrocution hazards.
