Lake Galbraith

Galbraith Lake, situation on the property of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, offers a picturesque setting with a variety of aesthetic, recreational, and educational opportunities for our community. Spanning 37 acres and reaching a maximum depth of 31 feet, the no-wake lake provides a peaceful environment ideal for kyaking, fishing, and immersing oneself in nature.

Kayaking

Single-person kyaks are available for checkout by students and employees of Marian University's Ancilla College. Kyaks are located on the west side of the lake, near the fire pit, and cam be checked out at the Motherhouse's reception desk.

Process

To check out a kyal, students and employees must present their driver;s license at the receptionist's desl. The receptionist will provide instructions and a key. Life vest and oars will be provided. After use, return the key to the reception desk to retreive your driver's license. Please report any issues. If you are using your own kyak, launch from the designated area on the west side of the lake and follow all safety procedures.

Safety

Life vests are required at all times. Do not kyak alone, and ensure you pack a communication device.

Fishing

Students, employees, and their families are welcome to fish at the public access point on the south side of the lake. A fishing license, as required by the DNR, is necessary. Please bring your own fishing equipment and adhere to posted designated fishing areas for an enjoyable experience.

Fishing is also permitted for students and employees at the kayak launch site on the west side of the lake near the fire pit. Exercise caution to avoid disturbing the bank and slipping into the lake. 

Additionally, students and employees may fish from the dock on the north side of the lake, but only when the pontoon is not docked.

Disc Golf

Our disc golf couse is perfect for players of all skill levels. You can bring your own discs or borrow them from Residential Life. Course maps are also available to help you navigate and enjoy your game.

Sand Volleyball

A sand volleyball court is conveniently located on the north side of the residence halls. Bring your own volleyball or check one out from Residential Life to enjoy a game.

Bird Watching

Binoculars and bird identification books are available for checkout at the Motherhouse reception desk.
