We hear from prospective students every day. Surprisingly, many of their questions are similar. Typically, in Marian’s Adult Programs (MAP), our advisors give advice and answer questions on the transferability of credits, time management, online courses, and student success. Below are the questions (and answers!) we hear most often.
Q. Will Marian University accept my credits?
A. Marian University accepts most 100-level or higher courses that were taken at a regionally accredited institution. To be considered you must have earned a minimum of a C- or higher. Think your courses will transfer? An advisor can complete an unofficial evaluation for you. Just submit a transcript to get started.
Q. Will the credits I earn at Marian University transfer to another institution?
A. Every college and university has their own specific policies on transfer credit. While “like” courses should transfer, it’s best to send a copy of a course description to the registrar's office of the college you plan to earn your degree from to review. That way, you can be certain of credit transferability before you enroll in a course.
Q. Will I qualify for financial aid?
A. Degree seeking students at Marian University are eligible to apply for financial aid. Start by completing a FAFSA, which will determine eligibility for all federal and state aid. Q. How can I balance work, school, and a family?
A. Online classes make earning an education less daunting for students. They allow students to listen to lectures, study, and take exams when it’s convenient for them. There are still deadlines, but typically instructors allow ample testing windows for exams. Plus, the online courses are offered in the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), which is accessible on several mobile devices. Access course materials anywhere there is an internet connection.
Q. How much time will I need to dedicate to each course?
A. Since online courses cover lectures, PowerPoint slides, handouts, exams, announcements, and more, we recommend that you plan on spending a minimum of two hours per day on each course. Of course, the time spent can fluctuate, based on the course, the subject matter, and your aptitude.
Q. What is needed to complete an online course?
A. To be successful in an online course, students need:
- Strong time management skills to balance work, family, and school.
- A support system in place to help with the family.
- High speed internet, so online access to the LMS is always available.
- Determination – Never give up on your dream of earning a degree.
