Tiffany WallaceAnyone want to escape to Europe without the kids?

That’s what Tiffany Wallace did last spring, and it was an unforgettable experience. Adult students can take advantage of Marian University study abroad opportunities, and we hope more of them do.

Tiffany initially thought that she would feel out of place, being an older adult with the younger adult “traditional” students; however, the other students did not even notice Tiffany was “older” until she told them. Robert Schuttler, Marian University business professor and Study Abroad chaperone, said “Tiffany added a really neat dynamic, and his other students really enjoyed having her; she fit right in!”

Tiffany is a business student in Marian’s adult and online programs and saw the trip advertised through the university. She highly recommends that more adult students take advantage and explore studying abroad. Tiffany found out about the opportunity, saved money for a year, and saved up vacation time at work. That, along with her supportive family, allowed her to take a couple well deserved weeks from work and home life.

Tiffany shared that “studying at Harlaxton College in England has definitely been a highlight in my life and I would not trade it for anything.” It also turned out to be very affordable; even the flight out of Chicago was more affordable than anticipated. Tiffany said that with “all that you gain from the trip, it is well worth the price; the trip exceeded my expectations.”

She enjoyed all of the different tours, especially the historical castles and churches. Tiffany described Harlaxton and its city of Grantham to be a very peaceful, laid back place that gives more of a feel for the English culture. London was the total opposite and gave off a New York vibe, very busy and packed with tourists. The biggest challenge was all of the walking; though walking is optional, she enjoyed keeping up with the younger students. Tiffany’s strongest advice—“bring a good pair shoes!”

To top it all off, Tiffany received academic credit for the trip, and it has been an added bonus on her resume. The information that she gained on the business economy in England was enlightening, and she can apply this to future endeavors. If she were not planning on graduating next year, she would love to travel again, possibly to another country.

Tiffany thanks a coworker, who received her degree through the adult program, for helping her choose Marian University. Tiffany had been contemplating going back to school for quite some time but was torn as to what would be the best fit for her busy work life and home life. After her coworker explained the flexibility and convenience, Tiffany found that fit in Marian’s Adult Programs. She took the leap. The rest is history.

Tiffany will earn her bachelor’s degree in business administration with concentrations in human resource management and management in May 2019.
