Department of Performing Arts

Why study the performing arts at Marian?

The Department of Performing Arts will prepare you to be a creative leader with intellectual curiosity, personal and professional discipline, and empathy forged in the performing arts.

As a performing arts major or minor at Marian, you will be challenged academically and work hard, accomplishing more than you ever thought possible. But what you'll learn goes beyond the classroom.

  • Practice and perfect your musical skills and performance talents.
  • Get involved in campus life by joining student groups and clubs. Complete short-term or semester-based study-abroad courses. Engage in community service projects. Take field trips.
  • Learn important values and build real-world skills like good communication, creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership.
  • Enjoy personal attention and one-on-one mentoring from faculty recognized for teaching and professional expertise.
  • Take advantage of everything that Indianapolis has to offer: internships, employment, and a range of professional performing arts venues and productions. Did you know Indianapolis is the marching band and show choir capital of the nation? Marian is the only local university with both a collegiate show choir and a competition-style marching band.
