Speaking StudioOur peer consultants can help you with any stage of the speech-making process: topic selection, research, organizing, outlining, and delivery. We’re also here to support you with public speaking anxiety. For questions, email speakingstudio@marian.edu. New hours this fall. Our offerings will be moving to the library's Academic Commons.

Our podcast room includes all the equipment you need to begin podcasting! We can help you with planning, software guidance, and other steps to get started.

Our Services

Speaking Studio Consultations

Meet one-on-one with a peer tutor for help with all stages of the speech-development process: brainstorming and research, outlining, and delivery. We also offer strategies for dealing with public speaking anxiety. Our regular consultation options include:

  • In-person appointments.
  • Online appointments.
  • Bilingual appointments in Spanish (online and in-person) and in French (in person).
  • Mock interviews. We’ve partnered with the Exchange to offer you practice for your upcoming internship, scholarship, or job interview!
  • Visual aid assistance

We do not provide interpersonal communication assistance but welcome inquiries about and cohosting/participating in events on such topics. Email academiccommons@marian.edu for more.

Seminars/Workshops

We have workshops on podcasting and other multimedia frequently. Please check out our Instagram for updated listings.

  • Classroom visits: A tutor/our coordinator will visit your class to explain our offerings.
  • Personalized classroom visits (email academiccommons@marian.edu or mediacenter@marian.edu to develop).
  • Class visits to the media center, including ones in which students can experiment with the equipment.
  • Videos for your class. (Current videos include advice for students on communicating with professors.)
  • Collaborations on events.

Public Speaking Tutors
Harness your strengths with a one-on-one consultation with an Academic Commons tutor specializing in public speaking. No matter your stage of the speech-making process (topic selection, research, organizing, outlining, or delivery), our tutors have the resources for you. In addition to assisting with speeches and individual/group presentations, we’re also here to support you with public speaking anxiety. Media Center Tutors
The Media Center tutors (lowest level of Clare Hall) can help you with podcasting, film, photography, or design projects. They can also help you check out multimedia equipment. Make an appointment with a student tutor through mediacenter@marian.edu (fall and spring only).
