Contemporary society needs classically educated citizens who understand the foundations of Western civilizations and cultures.
A minor in classical studies will provide you with a broad base of interdisciplinary knowledge about the bedrock of Western civilizations. The study of classical languages, art, history, philosophy, and mythology helps students develop analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students with a minor in classical studies cultivate cross-cultural agility as they practice orienteering through the varied symbolic universes of the classical world.
To earn a classical studies minor, you will complete 18 credits from any of the following courses:
Students with a minor in classical studies have the distinction of not having completed university as a trade school for a profession, but have received an education in the liberal arts that allows them to have a more expansive worldview and philosophical understanding of society. This foundation gives them a much broader vista so that they can situate and evaluate new ideas in the context of Western civilization and cultures.
