Marian University has been an anchor institution in the Near Northwest Area (NNW) community since it was relocated here by the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg in 1937. Marian, in partnership with NNW, is spearheading the Riverside Education Innovation District (REID), to:
REID is a partnership with the community, located in the historic Riverside area of Indianapolis, known as the Near Northwest. REID is a vision for the future of education in the NNW.
At the heart of REID is a commitment to lifelong learning and community revitalization.
Marian University and trusted partners will revitalize the Larue Carter Campus, renovating the former Indiana Veterans Administration Hospital, and creating a hub for educational partners to bring high-quality programming to the NNW.
Marian’s Klipsch Educator's College and K-12 and adult educational outreach programs will walk alongside NNW schools to advance literacy rates and support lifelong learning for residents of all ages. Currently, approximately 48% of third-grade students in NNW pass the I-READ assessment.
Through these efforts and educational services provided by partnering organizations, REID will improve literacy and lifetime educational attainment to advance NNW quality of life.
From literacy initiatives to adult education, the REID will be a resource for learners of all ages, fostering a culture of lifelong learning and personal growth.
A diverse group of residents, community leaders, businesses, non-profits, government officials, educational institutions, service providers, and others are committed to ensuring that REID serves core needs of the NNW.
Together, we are working towards an educational ecosystem that extends beyond the classroom, providing support to students, families, and the broader community.
Through the continued engagement of our partners and the active participation of the community, REID will serve as a beacon of opportunity and transformation.
Join us in shaping the future of education in the Near Northwest
