Matthew Eaton, DO, MPH

Biography

I am an Indiana native, originally from Crown Point, or what some would call “The Region.” I pursued my undergraduate education at Purdue University, then switched teams to receive my Master of Public Health degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

It was while working as a research coordinator at the Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University Center for Aging research, that my eyes were opened to Osteopathic Medicine. I was mentored by several Osteopathic physicians who guided me to the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. I spent eight years in Chicago, first earning my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and then completing my residency in Emergency Medicine.

After practicing in the Chicago area, I moved to San Antonio, Texas, and practiced as a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician for four years. During this time, I also worked as Assistant Professor and Emergency Medicine Clerkship Director at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. At that similar faith-based Catholic institution, I taught clinical skills, OMT, and medical simulation. I have most recently been practicing throughout the Indianapolis area within the Ascension St. Vincent Emergency Departments and have had many opportunities to work with fourth-year Marian students on their Emergency Medicine rotations.

My family is what brought me back to Indiana. I currently live in Noblesville with my wife, Megan, a Family Medicine physician, and our five-year-old son, Logan, a dinosaur enthusiast. One of our passions is travel. In fact, I actually met my wife while on a medical mission trip with DOCARE in Guatemala. Together we have been to Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Vatican City, Greece, and Tahiti, and we hope to add many more countries to our list.

My other passion is, of course, teaching medical students and residents. I also enjoy teaching public health and epidemiology. One of my goals is to provide lab-based education through the interactive arts and sciences of OMT, clinical skills and simulation. My goal for the Marian University students to truly learn a hands-on approach to patient care. Ultimately, my hope is to promote the health of our community with regard to the Mind, Body, and Spirit of our Osteopathic tenets.
