Nationally Recognized Innovation

We are Taking Teacher Preparation to a New Level

Since Marian University was established in 1937, developing transformational leaders in the field of education has been our focus. In fact, we're recognized for our tradition of excellence in teacher education by groups like the Association for Childhood Educational International, the  National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Today, the Klipsch Educators College is preparing great teachers with the knowledge, training, and skill they need to make great things happen in K-12 classrooms.

We're proud to produce graduates who are values-oriented and passionate about being called to teach. Because we believe every child deserves a great education.

Why major in education at Marian University?

We're on a mission to become a national model of excellence in educating college students who want to serve as innovative K-12 teachers and school leaders.

  • Learn from locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized education faculty who will mentor, support, and challenge you every step of the way.
  • You will get early, frequent, and varied classroom experience that focuses on addressing the real issues and challenges facing K-12 schools, students, and families.
  • You will complete a Maymester study-abroad course at a high-performing K-12 international school.
  • Join the Marian University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an international honor society in education. Our chapter was recognized with KDP's 2011 Achieving Chapter Excellence Award.
  • You'll enjoy exceptional career and graduate school placement rates: 100 percent of our education majors are employed in full-time teaching careers or continuing their studies in graduate programs within six months or less of graduation.
  • After graduation, you'll be assigned a post-graduate master teacher as a mentor who is available for support and consultation for up to one full year.
  • With financial assistance made possible by our supporters, you'll graduate with little or no debt.

What can you expect?

With our new one-year residency, we're taking teacher preparation to the next level. Our undergraduate program includes a rigorous eight-to-ten-semester plan of study that includes a year-long clinical teaching residency.  Download the Clinical Experiences Handbook.

The residency, similar to that completed by medical students, enables you to hone your teaching skills in authentic learning environments at some of the most innovative school districts in central Indiana.

  • The length of time it will take to complete the program depends on your qualifications. Some students may be able to complete the program in four years.
  • If you are a high-achieving high school graduate who enters Marian University with AP, dual-credit, or summer college credits, you may be able to complete the program in less than ten semesters.
  • You will earn an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in applied educational studies, elementary education, secondary education, or special education AND a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Education or a Master of Arts in Special Education degree.

You Will

  • Become highly proficient in your chosen content area, including high-need fields like mathematics, science, literacy, English as a second language, and special education.
  • Explore best practices in instructional delivery, methodologies, technologies, and other critical 21st century teaching skills.
  • Complete at least one practicum per semester and get real classroom experience from your first year. In fact, you'll get field experience in a variety of educational settings throughout the course of your studies, including suburban, township, urban, private, public, charter, and faith-based schools.
  • Build relationships with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds who have a variety of learning needs and styles.
  • Prepare for licensure as a teacher in the State of Indiana and/or reciprocal licensure in other states.
