On Saturday, April 10, students, faculty, staff, and other members of the university community gathered in a packed Marian University Theatre for the 40th Annual Student Achievement Awards. Students were recognized for their academic success, service, and leadership.
Faculty members from each school were seated on the stage, each taking the podium to present the many students their awards. Not only did the program show the accomplishments of the students, but the faculty’s successes as educators.
Saved for the very end of the program were two special awards given to deserving seniors who went above and beyond in and outside of the classroom. The first of the two awards presented was the John Sweany Maid and Knight Memorial Spirit Award, which was presented to one male and one female who demonstrated the spirit of alumnus John Sweany. Riley Missel and Denzel Campbell were recipients of the award.
“I didn’t expect it. It was a surprise because Marian University creates an environment where a lot of students are very deserving of an honor like this,” Missel said. “I like that there were awards that weren’t necessarily based on grades and sports, but for being a good person.”
The ceremony concluded with senior Jill Crane receiving the Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. Crane was given the award for her high academic achievements and the acts of leadership displayed through her involvement on campus.
Congratulations to all students recognized at the ceremony!
