Saturday, February 18, 2017, was a fun-filled day on campus, as we welcomed back alumni basketball players to shoot hoops again in the Physical Education Center. The day was extra exciting, because this year marked the first women's alumni game!
Megan Egenolf '11 helped recruit fellow teammates for the inaugural women's game. Egenolf said, "We had a lot of fun together and enjoyed a full morning of events."
Anjellica Rospond '11 excitedly stated, "I'm glad we finally have a game and look forward to keeping up this new tradition."
In addition to the games and contests, the participants and former players were introduced during halftime of the respective women's and men's games as recognition for their efforts to Marian Athletics--past, present, and future. Once a Knight, always a Knight.
During the luncheon reception, Steve Downing, Athletic Director, updated attendees about progress in athletics, including an overview about S2L3. Molly Lauck '10 was happy this update was included, stating, "It's great to hear about all the changes coming to campus!"
Dion Smith '16, who wowed the crowd with a slam dunk, said, "It's good to be back on campus and on the court again. I'm happy to see everyone." Being a recent alumni, he also added, "It was fun to play with other former players and put on a show for the fans who came to support us."
Michael Noone '63 was the coordinator, making the day special for everyone who came back to play and watch because of his efforts. He said, "I feel very good about the day--growing the men's game and starting one for the women."
Noone added, "It's fun to get back together and continue building relationships with other players. The young players are fun to get to know, and the camaraderie among the alumni from various generations is great to see."
Perhaps Jessica (Woods) Carr '09, summed up day's events best, when she eagerly stated, "I'm ready for next year!" with a huge smile on her face.
We're looking forward to it already too and will share the date for 2018 as soon as the new season's schedules are released. Start practicing now, Knights!
