On Saturday, September 9, 22 teachers of French gathered on Marian University's campus for the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) workshop. Educators spanned from the elementary to collegiate level.
Martine Camblor, assistant professor of French and director of the language center and language placement testing, was asked to plan the workshop after being approached by AATF Indiana.
“I immediately accepted to help for I saw the great opportunity to have Marian University associated with the main French organizations and representatives of the French government supporting academic programs of French in the Midwest,” Camblor said.
The workshop was themed “Developing Group Dynamic in the Language Classroom to Increase Student Motivation.” Dominique Licops, Ph.D., associate professor of instruction in French and director of the French language program at Northwestern University, shared her expertise on the topic.
“The day was filled with fun, dynamic, hands-on activities transferable to all levels of active learners,” Camblor said.
The Consulate of France in Chicago was the main sponsor of the event. Alumni Alan Guillen ’16 and Jessica Skrobul ’15 were two of the participants.
"We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the attendees, asking for more professional training of this nature and quality," Camblor said.
