Greg Ginder, senior vice president for personnel, finance, facilities, and technology, has spent the past 8 years working at Marian University—the past eight he’d call the best out of his 36-year professional career. The university’s mission and getting to see how it impacts the lives of future leaders every single day is what brought him to campus.
Ginder’s primary responsibility is to ensure the university has the resources it needs to be successful: making sure there are adequate facilities such as classrooms, residence halls, co-curricular spaces, etc.; working to bring the best technology to those classrooms and activity spaces; and making sure the university has the finances and people to pull it off. Two of Ginder’s current projects are the construction of the Paul J. Norman Center, home of the Byrum School of Business, as well as the new facility housing the dining commons, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital Hall of Champions, workout and performance center, and the expanded arena.
Q&A with Greg Ginder
Q: What is your favorite part about working at Marian University?
A: My favorite part about working here is that our mission is real. The faculty, staff, and students are sincere in what they are trying to do. It’s for the students, but then it goes beyond that. How are we helping the community? How are we helping those in need?
One of the things I really like is the opportunity to be engaged with students. One of my goals is to attend at least one student event per week. Whether it’s an athletic event, Mass, etc., that’s how you really feel the mission coming alive. When you get out of your office and spend time where the students are.
Q: Is there an experience while working here that sticks out to you?
A: One of the most moving experiences was the first medical school commencement. It was amazing.
Q: If you could switch places with another faculty or staff member, who would it be and why?
A: Shane in the dining hall. Students love Shane. He gets to meet them all. He knows their preferences. It would be fun to serve the students for a day.
Q: Outside of work, what do you like to do?
A: Outdoor and family activities - camping, biking, boating, and fishing.
