In just 2019, eight alumni have been ordained priests and four have been ordained transitional deacons—making Marian University second-in-the-nation for most priestly ordinations this year (tied with University of Notre Dame).
All of these alumni are graduates of the Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary located just south of the university’s main campus. Students in the seminary earn their college degrees at Marian University as they enter into the process of discernment and explore their call to religious life.
“Marian University is extremely proud of each alumnus ordained as a deacon and priest this year. Their ordinations speak to the power of collaboration and confirm the vision of Archbishop Beuchlein and President Daniel J. Elsener to establish a collaborative college-age seminary at Marian University,” Adam Setmeyer, vice president of mission and ministry, said. “Together, we are providing a national example of formation of our priests and the quality of our theology and philosophy faculty. Creating the seminary took courage, and the Holy Spirit has answered our prayers in their ordinations. We are proud to call them Knights.”
