Binh Q. Tran, Ph.D., dean of the E. S. Witchger School of Engineering at Marian University, has been named a Biomedical Engineering Program Evaluator for the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET)—the global accreditor of college and university engineering and natural science programs. He is one of 2,200 professionals from around the world to serve in this role for ABET.
In his new role, Dr. Tran will work alongside other ABET Engineering Accreditation Committee program evaluators from elite worldwide colleges, universities, and organizations to examine and evaluate more than 4,300 engineering and natural science programs at over 800 institutions in more than 40 countries. By reviewing course materials and student transcripts; interviewing faculty, staff and students; and examining academic facilities; program evaluators like Dr. Tran assess and make recommendations to the Engineering Accreditation Committee at ABET regarding program accreditation.
“We are fortunate to have globally recognized professionals like Dr. Tran training our future engineers and leading the new E. S. Witchger School of Engineering,” said Daniel J. Elsener, president of Marian University. “Dr. Tran’s commitment to advancing his profession at a worldwide level continues to shine a light on Marian University and the State of Indiana and its robust and diverse STEM education and opportunities.”
