The competition for the “Best Poster” was steep and yielded two first and second-place winners. Congratulations to the following Shining Stars from last fall's competition for the eighth annual event held at the Michael A. Evans Center For Health Sciences.
Tying for Best Poster Presentation Award – first place, went to:
Krutil Patel '25, Joseph Gonsiorowski, Tulasi Jaladi '25, Zarah Khan, Shayan Khurram '25, and Samina Akbar, Ph.D., for their research project, "Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance in Gram-negative Bacteria isolated from the Nina Mason Pullium EcoLab (NMPE)"; and
Taylor Hiland '25, Carmela Marciano, Sierra Street, Carson Maris, Andrew Ehrsam '25, Julia Hum, Ph.D., and Jonathan Lowery Ph.D., for their research project, "Instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulation which improves low back pain and attenuates pro-inflammatory cytokine levels."
Tying for Best Poster Presentation Award – second place, went to:
Harrison Smith '25, Lava Timsina, Jeremy Levin, Nick Redilla, Laura Scanameo, Brigitte Smartwood, and Ashley Meagher for their poster entitled: "Increased Readmission after Trauma Surgery in Incarcerated Patients"; and
"Clinical Anatomy of Internal Jugular Cannulation: A Review " by Natalie Kosnik, Taylor Kowalski, Lorraine Lorenz Kumar, and Mercedes Valacer.
The Best Oral Presentation Award went to Jessica Pakonen '25, Monica Cruz, Alex Jensen, Rodolfo Gutierrez, and Gabriela Bustamante for "Focus on the bright side: disproportionately high usage of cervical cancer screening services by uninsured Hispanics in Minnesota."
