Congratulations to Marian University Biomedical Sciences grad Hayley Sabol ’20 on winning the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute first-place award for Outstanding Cancer Research. Sabol is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
In studying multiple myeloma, a hematological cancer that induces a devastating bone disease, she discovered combination therapy based on a bone-targeted Notch inhibitor and anti-Sclerostin antibody simultaneously decreased tumor burden and rebuilds damaged bone in mice with established myeloma disease. This presentation and her research went on to earn first place!
“This multi-modal therapy provides a new therapeutic avenue to control tumor growth and improve bone health in patients," said Sabol '20.” Her Ph.D. thesis work is already making big strides in the medical world! Congratulations on being a Shining Star!
