Marian University is home to many success stories, but Hannah Russell's story deserves the spotlight. Russell was a part of Project Build, an outreach program for students who still need to complete high school or an industry-recognized certification. Russell dropped out of high school when she was 16; she faced many ups and downs for about seven years until she finally earned her high school equivalency (HSE) with Marian University's Adult Education program at the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center.
Russell says she found hope in the outstanding educators at Marian, St. Joe's College of Marian University, and Project Build, who make intentional time for their students and meet them where they are. Russell is a witness to the success these professors strive for their students to accomplish.
In a brief reflection, Russell shares, "Every single person who works with this program is incredibly supportive." Professors such as James Highbaugh and Taneah (T.J) Turner are some of the core professors who impacted Russell's experience. Highbaugh brought math into a language that Russell understood, and Turner found a way of getting science to Russell's level. This is a beautiful tribute to these teachers' impact on those enrolled in Project Build.
Russell encourages all to get involved in the program, as her current opportunities overjoy her. She experienced the power of a decent, approachable, and supportive education, stating, "For the first time in my life, I can say I'm going to miss going to school."
